I have been on the search for the best implant dentist in my area. I am honestly feeling overwhelmed at all my options. But one of them I recently had a consultation with was making an extremely big deal of the “3i” brand of dental implants. He had me pretty convinced of why they were the best, but when I asked the next implant dentist I interviewed about them, he had a blank look on his face and admitted he’d never heard of them. So, how important is the brand of dental implants? What is the best one?

Bart,
First off, you deserve a pat on the back for asking a question of this nature. It shows that you have been doing your research and that is a mistake far too many people fall short on. They don’t interview and look into a dentist’s credentials and then they end up having a terrible experience.
The most important factor in selecting an implant dentist is trust. The brand they choose depends on personal preference. That said, 3i is one of the most reputable, trusted brands on the market today. Other comparable brands include Straumann, Nobel Biocare, Astrotech, BioHorizons, and Zimmer. Each of these brands has excellent quality control standards and a stellar record of success. Your implant dentist will be proud of the brand he or she uses and will feel his selection is superior. But any of these brands mentioned are sufficient in delivering results. Never move forward with a dentist that skimps on the parts to save on costs. There are no shortage of knock-off dental implant brands overseas. And some dentists fall into this trap.
But again, the most important tip in finding the best implant dentist is to ask about similar cases to yours, ask about their success rate, and credentials. You should expect a 98% success rate. Check out online reviews, ask to speak to recent patients, and ask about any cases that didn’t go according to plan. You need to trust your dentist with such a comprehensive treatment plan. Each case is different and has varying factors. But your dentist should give you clear expectations about what you can expect and how your case will compare to others in his or her portfolio. Good luck!
