I have dental implants and a removable appliance that snaps into them. The little retention cups need to be replaced. When I called into my dentist he wanted to charge $25 for one! They are so tiny and I can’t justify the cost because I found them online for $20 for a set of four. But, I don’t think I’m able to order them because I’m not a dentist. Is there any way I can get my hands on these without having to work through my dentist?

It’s not uncommon for the implant dentist to mark up dental products since they have such high overhead. However, this is such a small item when you consider the entire dental operation. In most cases, a dentist will work with you on something like this and compromise on the cost, especially since you have had such a significant dental procedure.
If your dentist won’t budge, you may consider making a few calls to other local dental offices. There is a good chance you can find another office to order them on your behalf. If you explain your situation, most dental office staff are helpful and understanding. You have a decent chance of an empathetic dental assistant that will order them on your behalf. There is no need for any personal interaction with the dentist at the new office. In most offices, the dental staff will take care of the orders.
Or, you may be able to order them on your own. Try checking out ebay instead of the dental supplier. Although, they will likely come from overseas, for such a small part, a dental implant locator cap should be fine. And it shouldn’t require any documentation that you are a dental professional.
The bigger issue with ordering them on your own is knowing how to pop them into your denture appliance to secure the dental implants. Some of the caps come in different firmness and others are quite soft. So, you will need to keep that in mind when changing them out.
Good luck!
