I absolutely love my new porcelain veneers. The compliments keep coming. They tell me I look younger, happier and more confident. Honestly, my new smile has made me look and feel so much better about myself.
The porcelain veneers were a pretty large investment. So, I want to keep them looking fabulous as long as possible. What type of mouthwash to you recommend?

Jennifer,
Hearing your excitement is what beautiful cosmetic dentistry is all about. Thank you for sharing your story.
The most important part of selecting the oral care products for porcelain veneers is that they do not contain alcohol. In fact, this pertains to any kind of cosmetic dentistry. So, be sure to check out the label information to ensure there is no alcohol. Some brands have over 20% alcohol, which can damage your porcelain veneers. The alcohol softens the dental bonding agents that hold the porcelain veneers to your teeth.
Mouthwash isn’t a necessity in your oral care routine. But, if it is something you feel like you need, just be sure it is alcohol-free. For example, Crest Pro-Health and Breath-Rx are varieties that do not contain alcohol. Breath-Rx is typically offered through a dentist’s office.
Taking Care of Porcelain Veneers
Other important tips to take care of your porcelain veneers include:
1) Brush your teeth after every meal using a soft bristled tooth brush. Or at least twice a day.
2) Flossing is also important. Try to do it twice a day.
3) Do not use abrasive oral care products, like whitening toothpastes or other products. The porcelain veneers have a protective barrier that helps prevent stains. Using abrasive products can down the barrier, resulting in stains.
4) Regular hygiene visit to your dentist are imperative. Be sure they are trained and experienced in treating porcelain veneers. Certain hygiene equipment and techniques can damage the veneers. So, be sure the hygienists know how to clean and protect your cosmetic dentistry.
5) As mentioned, avoid mouthwash that has alcohol in it.
These helpful porcelain veneer care tips should keep your smile looking fantastic for years to come.
